Dear Xequte Software User,

My message last month regarding the Nando Parrado book, Miracle in the Andes, must have really struck a chord.  I had more feedback after that newsletter than almost any other.  Many people had read the book and wanted to offer their feedback, others recommended their own favorite books, and some even related touching stories of similar happenings in their own life (albeit without the plane crash and cannibalism).  I appreciate everyone’s comments and if you’ve had the time to read the book, please drop me a line.

On the other hand, some customers remarked (somewhat tongue-in-cheek, I hope) that if I had the time to read a book from cover to cover, then clearly we weren’t working nearly as hard as we should be.  Well this newsletter should put paid to that rumor.  This month we have two major releases to offer you; Diji Album, our photo album creation software, and Amaze, our fun multimedia and photo screen saver.

As usual we're making it easier for registered users to get the new release with discounted upgrades for the next week.  Free upgrades are also available to recent purchasers and old friends (those who have purchased three or more upgrades).

If you encounter any problems with the new releases please e-mail us at sales@xequte.com.  On the other hand, if all is rosy, please email all of your friends and tell them about us :-)

Regards

* Program Tips

- Diji Album: Adding buttons to your Image Slideshow

Diji Album offers two formats for PC album disks, the native Diji Album format and a newer image based slideshow which offers over 160 transition effects.  With v7 you can now add a new set of buttons to any image slideshow disks that you create.

Firstly, note that buttons are only added to Image Slideshow disks if you enable the manual navigation option (i.e. you need to use the keyboard or mouse to navigate the album) on the penultimate step of the Build and Share Album wizard (under the File menu) and check the "Add Toolbar" box.

- Chapter buttons:  If you have divided your album into chapters (under Page>Page Properties checked the box "Start of New Chapter") then chapter buttons will automatically be added to the image slideshow allowing you to quickly move between chapters

- Email button:  Under File>Album Properties, Contact Information if you have specified a contact email address a button will be added to the toolbar which can be clicked to send you an email

- Web page button:  As above, if you have specified a web page under File>Album Properties, Contact Information a button will be added which can be clicked to display your web page

- Amaze: Displaying IPTC descriptions over your images

When you specify a description for your images in many applications (such as Picasa, MegaView and PhotoShop) the data is embedded into the image file itself allowing you to use it in other applications.  With Amaze 6 you can now automatically display any such description when an image is displayed.  To enable this:

1.  In the Amaze folder under your Start menu choose the "Configure Amaze"

2.  Click the Settings tab

3.  In the Slideshow Captions box choose the "Description" option

- DVD PixPlay: Adding your own commentary to your slideshow

If you prefer to commentate your slideshow, rather than play background music, you can do this directly from DVD PixPlay.

Firstly, you will need to insert a microphone into your computer, then:

1.  Select Edit>Slideshow Properties from the menu

2.  Choose the Background Music tab

3.  Click the Record Now button

4.  Check the box to "Display slideshow during the recording"

5.  Click Start Recording

DVD PixPlay will immediately commence the display of your slideshow allowing you to record in time with your photos.

Note:  It is recommended that you do not add the commentary to your slideshow until you have finalized the visual side of things (i.e. arranged your images, set their display times, etc).

- MailList King: Replying to all messages in an Outlook folder

Sometimes you may find that you want to send an e-mail to all the message senders in a particular Outlook folder.  You can do this easily with MailList King.  Firstly, select File>Send Email to List, then click the To... button. Check the "Manually Enter Addresses" option and then click 'From Mail Folder' and select the Outlook folder to get the addresses from.

- Smart Pix Manager: Adding custom fields to your database

Custom database fields allow you add your own searchable data to your files.  For example, if your pictures are of cars, then you might add fields for, "Color", "Engine", etc.

To specify and edit your fields:

1.  Select your file(s)

2.  Click File>File Information (or Ctrl+Enter)

3.  Select the "Custom Fields" tab

4.  Click "New" to add a new field, or type data into an existing field

To search on your custom fields:

1.  Select Database mode

2.  From the selection box, choose "Search for Text"

3.  Set the search field to "Custom Fields" and enter the text to search for
